6 Reasons to Keep on Training

Last update: 01 August, 2018

Work, money, a romantic moment, or spending time with family… the excuses to quit the gym or any other physical activity can be many.  However, there are even more reasons to keep on training.  We will explore the main ones in order to keep your body healthy and in shape.

As much as we may enjoy exercising, we all go through those moments where we hesitate between continuing or stopping.  It may even begin to happen more and more often.  After all, who has not considered staying home to watch a series or play video games, instead of breaking a sweat?

Clearly, we do not need to look too hard to see which of the two options is better for our body.  However, understanding the benefits of working out is worth our time.

6 Reasons to Keep on Training

1. It is good for your health

Any sort of training, physical activity, or sport will keep your body healthy and active.  In the first place, it accelerates your metabolism and helps to regulate your appetite and your sleep pattern–two crucial elements to a well-functioning body.

Training keeps your muscles active, tough, and strong.  This will result in fewer muscular injuries, as well as those caused by poor posture.

On the other hand, cardiovascular heath also improves dramatically when we work out.  As we push our body, all of the components of our circulatory system need to work more efficiently to keep up.

Physical exercise helps to reduce arterial pressure.  In response to the constant demands of exercise, the heart functions better and fulfills its daily workload more easily.

2. It gives your mind a workout

Another reason to keep on training, is to do with your mental health.  Physical activity gives us a sharp mind that is alert and can respond efficiently to different stimuli.

In itself, staying active is a great way to relax.  Working out is a very effective way to relieve tension.  When the brain focuses on a task after training, it experiences a noticeable boost in its concentration.

3. A better mood

Have you noticed how well you feel after pushing your body while training?  The first component of this feeling is the release of endorphins, which are the hormones responsible for making us feel good.  They create positive sensations while our body is in a state of comfort; these are produced while exercising.

In addition, there is a psychological component to mood improvement.  After exercising, you feel that you have fulfilled your duty of taking care of your body.  For this reason, you feel liberated and in a mood that lets you enjoy the rest of the day.

4. What would you do instead?

Suppose that due to the inconvenience of it all, you decide to stop training.  What would you do instead?  Is it worth putting your physical and mental well-being at risk in order to have just one more hour of leisure every other day?  Are those hours of overtime at work worth more than your health?

In case you do find an activity that would fill your schedule and make you give up your routine —such as practicing with a band, for example— the ideal choice would be to manage your time wisely and be able to do both.

It is not just about a short moment of fun: physical activity is much more than that.  Many of the reasons to keep on training are tied to direct and proven benefits for the body and mind.

5. Your appearance will improve

The formula is simple: when you move, you burn fat and calories; the result, then, will be weight loss and a slimmer figure.  The best options in order to reach these results are aerobic exercises, such as walking, running, cycling, or dancing.

In fact, if we train in a gym and we work with weights, the process of muscle hypertrophy combined with aerobic training, will replace fat with lean tissue in less time.

Abdominal training with the help of a personal trainer is a good way to tone your core.

6. Other benefits

In addition to those previously mentioned, we can include other positive effects of exercise on our health.  For example, doing physical activity reduces cholesterol levels in the bloodstream.

On the other hand, let us not forget to mention that training will give us more endurance when we play sports. You will notice clear improvements in abilities such as, coordination, speed, strength, and stamina, among others.

Finally, if your reason for abandoning exercise is fatigue, giving up your training will not help you at all.  In addition to improving self-esteem, making your body work hard makes it generate more energy by transferring oxygen and nutrients to your muscle tissue.  It is also useful for staying away from bad habits such as smoking or drinking alcohol.

As you can see, the reasons to keep on training are many and valid.  At this point, surely the idea of letting all that hard work go to waste has left your mind once and for all?  Your body and your mind will really thank you!
