Five Reasons Why You Don't See Results From The Gym

Last update: 09 October, 2018

If you have recently started training in the gym, you probably want to see some changes in your appearance. Seeing results from all your hard work at the gym is desirable. In the following article, we’ll tell you the main reasons why you may not see the results that you expect.

Why don’t I see results from the gym?

This question is asked by more people than you may think. This is because we often make several mistakes that don’t allow us to progress, that may even cause us to give up our desire to exercise. If you don’t see results from the gym, it may be due to one or more of the following reasons:

1. You stop when you feel discomfort

Nobody can deny that training requires effort. However, when we stop exercising because we feel a little discomfort, we won’t have the results that we expect. It’s true that when exercise becomes painful, it may be because of an injury, but, we are referring to completely stopping, just as the muscles begin to work.

Keep in mind that if the musculature ‘suffers’ it is because the muscles are trying…and that’s what makes you see results in the gym! Don’t stop when you think it’s difficult, push the bar higher and use your strength to finish the set.

2. You don’t follow a specific routine

For some people, the gym routine is boring, and that’s why they skip it. It’s a good idea to change the exercises every couple of weeks, so that the muscles continue to make progress.

In addition, you must follow a different routine to meet your goals. It’s not the same if your goal is to lose weight as it is to define your muscles or recover from an injury. It’s essential to talk to the gym instructor and tell them what you want to achieve.

3. You are impatient

We could argue that this is one of the main reasons why you don’t see results from the gym. We are all guilty of wanting everything immediately! But, we can’t realistically expect to lose 40 pounds in a week, or have the muscles of a bodybuilder in one month.

Maybe you have not allowed your body enough time to change. Therefore, it’s always better to set small goals, rather than one large goal, that will take more time to achieve. This way, you’ll always stay motivated and you will see results.

4. You lift the wrong amount of weight

It doesn’t matter if you are lifting more or less weight than necessary. In any case, it may be the reason why you don’t see results from the gym. Those that put too much weight on the bar or on the machines can suffer from injuries, and in the event that the weight is lower, the muscles won’t work as effectively.

Many women make the mistake of not lifting too much weight, for the fear of ‘becoming too bulky.’ In the case of men, they might lift too much weight, perhaps because they believe that they will be branded as ‘weak’ if they don’t lift large amounts. However, everyone should always work at their own pace.

5. You are sedentary for most of the time

It’s pointless to go to a gym class three times a week, or meet with a weight-lifting coach every afternoon, if you are sedentary for many hours or you don’t make any extra physical effort, such as for example, carrying shopping bags, walking or climbing the stairs.

Activity is essential to see results from the gym, because classes and routines complement your lifestyle. Just going to the gym on its own, is not a magic solution.

Finally, we shouldn’t forget our diet, as this is very important in achieving what we want. Whether we want to lose weight, gain weight or gain muscle mass. Consult a specialist to provide a diet plan according to your needs.
