Although keeping a record of the steps you take every day may not seem important, doing so might help you to live a healthier lifestyle. Therefore, many trainers and fitness professionals recommend taking a daily walk. For those who have trouble with this, here are some tips for taking more steps in your day.
The number of steps you take in a day could define your body’s health. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommend walking for at least 150 minutes each week. This is to make sure we prevent sedentarism, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases.
Shortly after this claim, professionals realized that 150 minutes was not enough and stated that 10,000 steps a day are the preferred number. However, that number was also questioned and is said to be inefficient. Therefore, the new goal is to take 15,000 steps a day.
Now, the question is: how hard is it to meet the quota? And, how do I take more steps in the day?
The importance of counting every step
Although the amount of time we walk was a measure before, now the best way is to measure the steps you take. This way, we can estimate how many miles we walk. Thus knowing how much we exercise.
A healthy exercise goal is to burn between 250 and 500 calories a day to prevent fat accumulation in the body. However, in the daily routines of modern society, it’s difficult to achieve this, since we would have to walk 8 to 10 miles a day.
And so, we need to find a better way of getting enough exercise in our daily lives. With the following tips, you’ll be able to take more steps in your day to reach that health goal.
Use it as a mode of transportation
Because of the strict schedules that most people have, it’s hard to think of walking to work. Most of us opt for taking a bus, taxi or driving in order to arrive at work on time. However, if we leave our house earlier, we could walk to work. Consequently taking more steps in the day.
With this method, you probably won’t arrive at the office bathed in sweat and you will enjoy the necessary exercise in the day. You can also try doing this when returning home as well.
Likewise, using the elevator at the office or in your apartment building is also a good idea to take more steps. The main idea here is to take full advantage of your time and distribute the number of steps throughout the day to reduce the difficulty.
More steps in a day: take the workout to the office
Nowadays, most employers understand the importance of exercise for their employees, even during working hours. You can actually meet that quota of exercise in a day from the comfort of your own office.
If you have a rolling desk chair at work, you may even take static steps while sitting on it. Repeating this process throughout the day will help you take more steps and therefore, burning more calories.
Obviously, go to the gym!
Ideally, you should take some time out of your busy day to exercise. Obviously, if you perform a more intense workout, you’ll lose weight quickly. Therefore, don’t forget the idea of going to the gym, or at least working out more intensely every few days.
It’s no easy task to reach the 8 to 10 miles as set out as the recommended minimum. Therefore, going to the gym and taking an aerobics class, for example, will help you to take a few more steps and reach this goal. So, we should never forget about exercise in our daily routine.
Finally, we should take advantage of the weekends to do some exercise too. If the toughest obstacle to take care of our body is the lack of time, then we need to take advantage of the little free time that we do have. And so, make sure you take more steps each day to meet your daily quota, your body will thank you.
