Muscle tension, stress, eating disorders, lack of sleep, eye fatigue or some diseases can all be the cause of headaches; It’s annoying and irritating. The good news is that there are natural, practical and some very effective headache remedies to explore.

There are a lot of different analgesics and anti-inflammatory medication available on the market, but you don’t want to overwhelm your body with them. When a tension headache is pressing against your temples, eyes and forehead, or a migraine is “hammering” one side of your head, it’s best not to also punish your stomach with medication.

Some people improve with a little silence and rest, but others need more than that. In these cases it may be convenient to resort to one of these five home headache remedies.

Water

Couple drinking water

Something as basic as water intake can help your headache to go away. Don’t forget that one of the causes of this discomfort is dehydration. Two glasses of water or natural juice (without sugar), can help you to feel really good again. And the benefits of lemon water are even more powerful.

Water can also help you to relax. Therefore, those who suffer from frequent headaches can find that taking a bath with warm water, (but avoiding getting their head wet) is very beneficial. It also helps you to place a bag with hot water in it, on the back of your head and neck.

Another infallible remedy is to dip your feet in warm water and then, in cold water, and alternating between them. If you want, you can add bath salts or lavender essence. This brings a very satisfying and calm feeling.

Similarly, researchers have widely proved the relief that is produced by applying ice on the affected area. But you shouldn’t apply it directly on your skin. You should wrap the ice with an airtight bag or blanket beforehand. This therapy can be done by alternating with cold and hot; if you want to do this, it’s advisable to also use another cloth, that is damp from hot water.

Infusions

Chamomille infusion

Infusions can replace any analgesic and without side effects. A ginger infusion can really help you with headaches, since it inhibits the synthesis of substances that cause them. You can prepare it by boiling (no more than) 10 grams of ginger root, in a little bit of water.

Echinacea is also effective against headaches and people consume it often when they have the flu. Incorporate one tablespoon of the dried plant into 200 milliliters of boiling water, let it sit, strain it and serve.

Within the list of plants that can relieve headaches, chamomile is perhaps the most common. To take full advantage of it, add three spoonfuls of the flower for each half liter of water; Boil it, allow it to sit for a couple of minutes, strain it and drink it during the day as if it were regular water. If you add a spoonful of lemon juice it’s even better.

Another suitable combination is mixing apple cider vinegar (two tablespoons) and honey together in a glass of hot water. It’s said that this takes away the pain in minutes.

Massages

Temple massage

Stress, fatigue and insomnia can lead to headaches and migraines. This is because your body screams for rest and relaxation. To relieve tension and achieve your desired physical condition, it’s very beneficial to massage the neck, scalp and any other areas that are affected by pain.

Massages in the temples, ear lobes, nose and scalp, are performed with the finger tips; They should be done in light circles, without exerting too much pressure. This treatment can be accompanied by oils or essences for an even greater effect.

The most used essential oils are: eucalyptus, lavender and chamomile. Although you can also use marjoram, rosemary and nutmeg. You can apply these separately, or mixed with each other, and you can use them in massages, baths or inhalations.

Coffee or olive oil

Coffee reduces inflammation in the blood vessels of the brain and is a good remedy for headaches. However, if your body is accustomed to coffee consumption on a daily basis, the required result may not be achieved.

Olive oil is an excellent antioxidant. Therefore, just two tablespoons of this precious product are enough for headaches to stop being a problem.

Prevention

Preventive medicine is the best option. Here are some tips:

  • Consume vitamin B12 and magnesium. You can find these nutrients in almonds, nuts, vegetables, eggs and other foods.
  • Walk or run for at least 30 minutes each day. This can relieve tension, improve your physical health and increase your life quality.
  • Develop good habits. When there are hormonal changes, such as when a woman is having her period, it’s beneficial to practice some form of relaxation. In addition, we recommend that you drink a lot of water, avoid lifting any heavy objects and stay away from spicy food.
  • Keep stress under control. Practice yoga, breathing exercises or any other physical activity that can keep the cause of headaches at bay.
