The best F1 teams in history are past and current teams that consistently aced their careers and achieved pole position. Do you know any of these world-renowned teams?
This one is a classic. When speaking about Formula 1, it’s very common to think of Ferrari. This Italian team dates back to 1950. At the time, Enzo Ferrari founded the team, and that same year they participated in the Monaco Grand Prix.
Ferrari is the oldest team in the championship. In fact, the team boasts the most victories: an incredible 229!
Furthermore, leading the race they’ve had some of the most important drivers in motorsport history. These famous drivers include Michael Schumacher, Juan Manuel Fangio, Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, Sebastian Vettel, and Fernando Alonso. Current Ferrari drivers are Vettel (German) and Kimi Raikkonen (Norwegian).
2. Mercedes: one of the best F1 teams in history
We all know the Mercedes Benz brand, both on and off the F1 track. In the sport, Mercedes debuted at the 1954 French Grand Prix. The German, Norbert Haug founded the team and they currently have two bases: one in Stuttgart (in Germany) and the other in Brackley (in England).
Although, with fewer victories than Ferrari, Mercedes is still a winning team. In fact, their drivers have achieved five championships, 95 victories, and 192 podiums. All of this by participating in 197 races in the great motorsport league. This is an impressive feat given they were absent from the sport for more than 50 years!
In addition to its participation in Formula 1, Mercedes (cover image) is also a manufacturer of engines for other teams. Their clients even included McLaren, in the 90s and 2000s. The current drivers for the Mercedes team are the English driver, Lewis Hamilton and the Norwegian driver, Valtteri Bottas.
The official name of this award-winning team is McLaren Racing Limited. It all started in the British city of Woking in 1963 where the former driver and engineer, Bruce McLaren founded the team under his name.
This is still one of the best F1 teams in history! Their record includes 12 championships, 182 victories, 485 podiums, and 155 pole positions, all after having competed in more than 800 races. Since McLaren only started racing in the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix, this is impressive!
Among those who’ve driven a McLaren car, we can highlight famous drivers such as Emerson Fittipaldi and Niki Lauda. Others such as James Hunt, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton, and Fernando Alonso have also driven McLaren cars. The latter is the main driver for the team, alongside the Belgian, Stoffel Vandoorne.

Currently, Red Bull Racing is based in Faenza, Italy as well as in Milton Keynes, England. The president and founder of the team is the Austrian, Dietrich Mateschitz. This is still a relatively new team, having their first race in the 2005 Australian Grand Prix.
